Accredited learning… on your own schedule… at your pace. That’s the foundation of Maverick Flex Path.

In the past several years, competency-based education (CBE) has gained increasing national attention, and for good reason. CBE is a nationally recognized learning model that allows you to earn academic credentials by mastering clearly defined skills and knowledge, called competencies.

Yet, many learners haven’t been exposed to the advantages of the flexibility and upskilling potential of CBE. At the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), Maverick Flex Path is one way this model is being implemented to expand access while maintaining academic rigor. You’ll have the flexibility to move at your own pace, while still following a clear path with structured courses, milestones, and support along the way.

Maverick Flex Path: Upskill with Ease

At UNO, expanding access to flexible, workforce-relevant learning pathways is a priority. CBE at UNO expands access to education for working adults and nontraditional students, offering programs with targeted skills that are in high demand by employers. This approach reflects UNO’s broader commitment to aligning academic programs with workforce and community needs.

Maverick Flex Path is a competency-based, self-paced learning model that gives students the opportunity to complete their degrees on their own terms while gaining skills that are in demand by the workforce. You won’t be doing this alone. UNO faculty provide ongoing feedback, guidance, and support throughout your experience. Traditional education paths are still a perfect choice for many, but the Maverick Flex Path offers an additional option for learners who need greater flexibility.

Self-paced: Learn when it works for you. Despite the popular anecdote, we know that not everyone has the same 24 hours in a day. The self-paced learning model gives students the true freedom and flexibility that they need. You can move at your own pace, advancing once you’ve truly mastered each skill.

Competency-based: This unique, skills-focused way of learning equips you with new knowledge, skills, and competencies that can change the course of your career.

Your Next Move: The Executive Business Certificate

The inaugural program for the Maverick Flex Path is the Graduate Certificate in Executive Business. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of business decision-making, financial analysis, and strategic thinking to succeed in various industries. As workforce expectations continue to evolve, professionals need skills that can be applied in real-world contexts. With Maverick Flex Path, you’ll gain those business skills that will allow you to grow as a leader in your workplace.

While more degrees and certificates will be added in the future, the Graduate Certificate in Executive Business offered by the College of Business Administration is part of UNO’s broader effort to expand flexible, workforce-aligned credential pathways. This program is designed to elevate a student’s leadership and business knowledge, prepare them for career advancement, and enable them to apply what they learn in their everyday work.

Maverick Flex Path is designed for working professionals who want to advance, build new skills, or pivot in their careers. Whether you’re balancing a full-time job, changing career paths, or returning to school after time away, it offers a structured, flexible pathway that aligns learning with real-world application. Explore your next step with Maverick Flex Path.
