  4. Welcome to MavEd

Welcome to MavEd, UNO’s new general education program. Beginning in Fall 2025, MavEd becomes the shared foundation of every undergraduate experience at UNO.

MavEd is designed to be more than a checklist of courses. It is a coherent, relevant, and purposeful program that equips students with the skills, perspectives, and experiences needed to thrive in a complex world. At its core, MavEd emphasizes:

  • Transferable skills such as critical thinking, data literacy, communication, and intercultural awareness.
  • Enduring questions that spark curiosity and connect learning across disciplines.
  • Integrative learning and reflection that help students see how their education applies to personal goals, career paths, and community life.
  • Engagement and responsibility that prepare students to contribute meaningfully as professionals and citizens.

MavEd also transforms how UNO supports teaching and advising. Faculty and staff are working together to design innovative courses, develop signature assignments, and foster a vibrant culture of collaboration that benefits every student.

As UNO’s metropolitan university, we believe general education should prepare students not only for success in their chosen careers, but also for lives of purpose and impact in Omaha and beyond.

Welcome to MavEd — a program that makes general education a foundation for growth, connection, and lifelong learning.
