OLLAS FACULTY SPOTLIGHTS - FALL 2021

Dr. Lissette Aliaga-Linares - laliagalinares@unomaha.edu
Sociology & Anthropology, Assistant Professor - Read profile

Faculty spotlight for Dr. Lissette Aliaga-Linares, Assistant Professor in Sociology & Anthropology at UNO. A sociologist and demographer, she studies labor, urban sociology, and Latino population demographics in Nebraska. She joined OLLAS in 2013 after starting as a Research Associate and values its applied and community-based focus. Her most helpful advice is from her father: “Sin prisa pero sin pausa” ("slowly but surely"). She became a sociologist unexpectedly, choosing it after overhearing a conversation while registering for classes in Peru. Her advice to students: explore bravely, learn from failure, and engage deeply with faculty and peers.

Dr. Ramon Guerra - rguerra@unomaha.edu
English, Associate Professor - Read profile

Faculty spotlight for Dr. Ramón Guerra, Associate Professor of English and Graduate Program Chair at UNO. He joined UNO in 2008 and focuses on Latino oral histories, testimonios, and their relationship to literature. He creates and teaches cross-listed courses with OLLAS. He joined OLLAS after a conference during his PhD studies, inspired by the faculty’s interdisciplinary focus. Ramón shares that although he is outgoing in the classroom, he is actually introverted outside of it. His advice to students is to not sell themselves short and to embrace the full college experience with openness and patience.
