Deena Keilany receives Dean's Award from Dean David Boocker and Chancellor Jeffrey Gold

Each year faculty nominate the most outstanding students by major and those students are honored at the campus-wide Student Honors Convocation. Outstanding majors are generally not only strong academically but also practiced researchers, mentors, leaders among their peers, and community volunteers. From among each year’s outstanding majors, the Dean selects one student as the Dean’s Award winner to represent the College. This year’s Dean’s Award winner is Deena Keilany.

Deena Keilany is a senior majoring in political science with a concentration in law and the courts. Her minors are in philosophy and leadership and public policy.

She is also actively involved in the community, working with Omaha Girls Rock, Nebraska Appleseed and Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.

She has interned with a local immigration law firm and worked as a legislative aide at the Nebraska State Legislature for eight months. She began her legal education at the University of Nebraska Colleg of Law in the fall of 2019.

Motivated by her desire to live a fulfilling life marked by positive change, she hopes to one day put her legal education use as a public servant dedicated to the betterment of her community.
