The Dual Enrollment Program of UNO's Department of English offers academically talented students enrolled in approved AP Literature and Composition courses and International Baccalaureate programs the opportunity to receive college credit by satisfying UNO English course requirements. Successful completion of two semesters of AP Literature and Composition will earn the student 6 credits of English / Humanities & Fine Arts credit for ENGL1010—Introduction to Genre Studies I (Prose) and ENGL1020—Introduction to Genre Studies II (Poetry, Drama, and Film). Successful completion of two semesters of IB coursework earns 3 credits for English 1010. Currently, the UNO English Department grants such credit to approximately 450 students a year.

Teaching Materials/ Educational Experiences Grants for Dual Enrollment Teachers

To help provide Dual Enrollment instructors with the resources they need to conduct college-level courses, Dual Enrollment English provides grants to teachers that can be used to purchase supplies or provide certain educational experiences for their students. To apply for one of these grants, please download this form: Teaching Materials / Educational Experiences Grant Form. You may then fill out the form, save it, and submit it as an attachment to an e-mail to Chuck Johanningsmeier, the Department of English’s Dual Enrollment Coordinator jmeier@unomaha.edu.


Course Tuition and Fees Grants for Dual Enrollment Teachers

Dual Enrollment English is willing to pay UNO course tuition and fees for Dual Enrollment teachers who either need to complete graduate coursework in English in order to satisfy accreditation requirements or who simply wish to enhance their knowledge base to help make them more effective teachers. To apply for such assistance, please download this form: Dual Enrollment Tuition and Fees. You may then fill it out, save it, and submit it as an attachment to an e-mail addressed to Chuck Johanningsmeier, the Department of English’s Dual Enrollment Coordinator jmeier@unomaha.edu.


English Department Full-time Faculty Travel Grants

The UNO Department of English’s Dual Enrollment program is once again pleased to offer full-time faculty members travel grants for the 2024-2025 academic year. These grants can only be used to support travel that allows the applicant to make a presentation, give a guest lecture, or participate in a formal discussion at a conference or other academic event; these funds are not available to faculty who wish only to attend a conference or conduct research. All travel should have the potential to benefit Dual Enrollment teachers and their students.

English Department Part-time Faculty and Graduate Students Travel Grants

The UNO Department of English’s Dual Enrollment program is pleased to provide travel grants of up to $700 for the 2024-2025 academic year in order to help part-time faculty and graduate students travel to conferences and symposia to deliver a paper, perform a reading, or participate in a formal discussion; these funds cannot be used simply to attend a conference. All travel should have the potential to benefit Dual Enrollment teachers and their students.
