Tell All the Truth Project

The Tell All the Truth Project serves as a catalyst for community engagement, promoting sustainability, hands-on learning, and celebrating Omaha in the process.

Funded by the Mellon Foundation in 2023, the Tell All the Truth Project (TATP) unites UNO’s English, History, Sociology, and Anthropology departments with students, faculty, and Omaha community partners. Through coursework and local events, this collaboration fosters engaged learning by exploring culture, history, literature, and more.

As part of TATP’s commitment to sponsoring two courses per semester, Dr. John Price, instructor of the TATP-sponsored course American Nonfiction, highlighted the program’s impact: “TATP deeply enriched the experience for students and for me!” He continued, “The course has long been dedicated to studying nonfiction literature of witness—personal essay, autobiography, etc.—from Frederick Douglass to the present.”

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Price extends TATP’s mission through community engagement. Most recently, a TATP-hosted food donation drive sparked discussions on food injustice, inspiring local organizations like City Sprouts and the Malcolm X Historical Foundation to join the conversation. Students and faculty actively participated, experiencing service learning in action.

For students like Kassidy Hoffman, the impact of TATP goes beyond academics. “UNO’s Tell All the Truth Project led me to places in Omaha I wouldn’t have otherwise known and allowed me to meet new and remarkable people!” she shared. “My class helped bring historically notable works of writing into the present day. I was able to relate my own experiences to those of others—whether they were activists from hundreds of years ago or people in my own neighborhood today. TATP brought a dynamic and engaging angle to important American literature.”

UNO English Major Summer Dingman shared that her "TATP project experience with the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation and City Sprouts was nothing short of incredible." Collaborating with two impactful, local organizations allowed her to better understand the variety and ease that can come with community involvement.

Through volunteering and hands-on learning, the Tell All the Truth Project fosters transformative change, strengthening the connection between UNO and our city.
