Commitment to RCA

  1. UNO
  2. Office of Research and Creative Activity

In the Office of Research and Creative Activity, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where inquiry, innovation, and creative expression thrive.

By providing robust resources, professional development, internal grants, and expert administration of sponsored projects, we empower students and faculty across disciplines to pursue transformative research and artistic endeavors.

Through funding, mentorship, collaboration, and infrastructure, we support impactful work that advances knowledge, enriches society, and enhances UNO’s local and global influence.

Research Funding and Support

At UNO, we are deeply committed to supporting research through both internal funding and by helping faculty and students secure external grants. We offer several funding opportunities to facilitate the development and execution of innovative projects.

  • Seed Grants and Internal Funding: We provide internal seed grants that help jumpstart promising research projects, allowing our researchers to lay the groundwork for future external funding opportunities.

  • Student Research Grants: Undergraduates and graduate students can apply for research grants that fund their independent projects, giving them the chance to explore topics of interest and contribute to their academic fields.

Collaborative and Interdisciplinary Opportunities

Collaboration across disciplines is a hallmark of research at UNO. We believe that groundbreaking research often occurs at the intersections of fields, and we encourage faculty and students to explore these opportunities.

  • Interdisciplinary Research Teams: Faculty and students are regularly involved in interdisciplinary projects, where teams from different academic backgrounds work together to approach complex problems from multiple angles.
  • Cross-departmental Initiatives: Our university fosters a culture of cross-departmental collaboration through joint programs, shared research initiatives, and integrated courses, creating a dynamic intellectual environment where diverse perspectives can thrive.

Mentorship and Professional Development

At UNO, mentorship is central to the research experience. We provide robust support for students and faculty to ensure they are well-equipped for success.

  • Faculty Mentorship: Our faculty members serve as mentors to students, guiding them through the research process, providing advice on methodology, and helping them navigate challenges in their projects.

  • Workshops and Training: We offer a variety of workshops designed to help students and faculty develop the necessary skills for successful research, from grant writing and data analysis to publishing and disseminating findings.

  • Conferences and Research Symposia: UNO hosts annual conferences and symposia that provide platforms for students and faculty to present their research, share their findings, and build professional networks.

Supporting Creative Activity

For our students and faculty in the arts, UNO is deeply committed to nurturing creative activity. We offer vibrant opportunities for students to explore their creative potential, collaborate with peers and professionals, and showcase their work.

  • Art Galleries and Performance Spaces: Our university provides spaces for students and faculty to exhibit visual art, perform music, theater, dance, and other forms of creative expression. These venues serve as important platforms for artistic exploration and public engagement.

  • Artist-in-Residence Programs: We host artist-in-residence programs that invite professionals from various artistic disciplines to work closely with our students and faculty, enriching our academic and creative community.

  • Collaborations with Cultural Institutions: UNO partners with museums, theaters, and other cultural organizations, giving students opportunities to engage in real-world creative projects and expand their professional horizons.

Promoting Student Research Engagement

We actively encourage students at all levels to engage in research and creative activity, providing opportunities that foster intellectual curiosity and hands-on learning.

  • Undergraduate Research Programs: Our undergraduate students have the opportunity to work directly with faculty on research projects, gaining valuable experience and contributing meaningfully to scholarly work.

  • Graduate Research Opportunities: Graduate students at UNO are deeply involved in cutting-edge research and creative projects, often leading their own initiatives alongside faculty mentors.

  • Research Conferences and Publications: We host student-led research conferences and publish student journals, allowing our students to present their work, get published, and receive recognition for their contributions.
