Open AI Challenge

What is the Open AI Challenge?

In collaboration with OpenAI, UNO is granting access to the EDU version of ChatGPT for up to 1,600 users (at no cost to the user), allowing for innovative uses of ChatGPT in the classroom and across campus. Our goal is to explore how AI can be helpful for faculty and staff in operations and in the classroom. Applications are now being accepted on a rolling basis (as long as licenses are available).

ChatGPT EDU is available for all full and part-time faculty and full-time staff at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Currently, access for students is permitted as a part of a proposal submitted by a faculty or staff member. All users must have an NU ID and unomaha.edu email address.

Apply today to start exploring!

How can I get access?

There are now two updated applications for getting access for ChatGPT EDU:

  • ChatGPT EDU for Operations, Research or Class Preparation
  • ChatGPT EDU for the Classroom

Review information about both applications below.

Apply for Access to ChatGPT EDU for Operations, Research or Class Preparation

This application is for faculty and staff who are wanting to explore how AI can be helpful in operations, research or creative activity, or class preparation and execution.

Proposal submissions for this category should be in the following areas:

  • Class Preparation and Execution
  • Research or Creative Activity
  • Operational Efficiency

Proposals will require the following:

  • Number of licenses being requested
  • Project/Application Title
  • Project Description - what are you wanting to use it for
  • Summary of data you may be using and potential risk

Apply for Access to ChatGPT EDU for Students in Your Class

This application is for faculty that are wanting to incorporate AI into their classrooms and obtain student licenses for students. Faculty can apply for up to 50 ChatGPT Enterprise licenses for students across their classes (some exceptions apply). Applications for student access in class must be submitted on a semester basis. While any faculty member can apply, when licenses are low, priority will go to faculty who are using AI throughout the entire semester.

Apply by August 22nd for the fall semester. NOTE: If licenses are still available, faculty may apply after the due date and still obtain licenses for their students.

Proposals will require the following:

  • Number of licenses being requested
  • Course name and section
  • Frequency of use in your course
  • Summary of how AI will be integrated
  • Goals for AI integration

Submit Your Proposal

Submissions are accepted at any point in the year (as long as licenses are available).

Important Notes about Participating:

Generative AI Training: All users must complete the Generative AI Cybersecurity Awareness Training (5-10 minutes) before gaining access to ChatGPT EDU.

Promotional and Storytelling component: You may be asked to provide an overview of how you're using AI or provide short statements about your experience for social media posts or at our annual AI Summit. This helps us tell our story of AI at UNO. Read our recent AI Learning Lab stories!
