Mark your calendars for an exciting event at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO)! On October 17 at 3 p.m., UNO’s College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS) will host a special screening of the blockbuster film Twisters in CPACS 101, followed by an expert-led panel on emergency management and storm science. The event will feature faculty and professionals from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and UNO's Emergency Management and Disaster Science program, who will offer unique insights into both the science behind tornadoes and the practical strategies used to manage and respond to such disasters.

After the screening, stick around for a dynamic panel discussion featuring members of UNO’s Emergency Management and Disaster Science program, including:

Dr. Adam Houston, assistant professor at UNL, film consultant, storm chaser,
Dr. Sojin Jang, a specialist in disaster preparedness,
Emily McNabb, Sarpy County Emergency Management Director and UNO adjunct professor,
Professor Mark Sheldon, a meteorologist in UNO’s Aviation program, and
Austin Brake, UNO’s Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.

This is a great opportunity to hear from experts who are on the front lines of disaster management and weather science. They will share their experiences and explain how UNO's emergency management program prepares students to respond to natural disasters like tornadoes, human-caused events, and other crises.
UNO’s Emergency Management and Disaster Science program offers comprehensive training, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience to equip students for real-world challenges. With partnerships across local and regional agencies, students get valuable opportunities to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to actual emergency situations. The program's interdisciplinary approach covers public administration, political science, geography, and sociology, making it a unique and holistic educational experience.
