Destination 225°

UNO’s Aviation Institute is proud to be one of the first five universities selected to partner with Southwest Airlines’ Destination 225° program — a comprehensive career pathway designed to lead aspiring pilots directly to the flight deck at Southwest.

What Is Destination 225°?

On a compass rose, 225° is the southwest heading — and Destination 225° was created to guide future aviators toward a career with Southwest Airlines®.

This innovative program offers multiple structured pathways for pilot development, combining university education, flight training, mentorship, and career-building opportunities. Through the Destination 225° University Pathway, UNO students receive the tools and connections they need to transition smoothly from the classroom to the cockpit.

Benefits of the Program

  • Direct Pathway to a Career at Southwest
Students who complete the program and meet all criteria are given priority consideration for hiring as First Officers at Southwest Airlines.

  • Mentorship from Industry Professionals
Destination 225° participants are paired with current Southwest pilots, gaining personalized mentorship and guidance throughout their training journey.

  • Leadership & Professional Development
The program includes professional training to prepare students for the responsibilities and culture of a major airline.

  • Flight Hour Building Support
Participants gain access to hour-building opportunities through affiliated flight schools, regional carriers, and training partners.
