Applying to the Aviation Institute

Admission to the Aviation Institute is contingent upon admission to the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). There is no separate application required for the Aviation Institute.

Minimum Admission Requirements

Freshman Applicants

To be considered for admission to UNO, students must meet both core course and performance requirements.

Core Course Requirements

Students must complete 16 academic units in the following categories:

Category Units Requirements
English 4 All units must include intensive reading and writing experience. Innovative interdisciplinary courses and courses in speech and journalism may be substituted if they include substantial amounts of reading and writing.
Mathematics 3 Must include Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry.
Social Sciences 3 At least one unit of American and/or world history; one additional unit of history, American Government, and/or geography; and a third unit of social science discipline or subject.
Natural Science 3 At least two of the three units must be selected from biology, chemistry, physics, and earth sciences. One of these units must include laboratory instruction.
Foreign Language 2 Must be two years of the same foreign language. Students who are unable to take two years of foreign language in high school may still qualify for admission. Such students will be required to take one or two semesters of foreign language depending on the number of units completed at the high school.
Additional Academic Requirement 1 One year is chosen from any of the above academic disciplines.

Performance Requirements

In addition to completing the required coursework, students must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Rank in the top 50% of their high school graduating class

  • Have an ACT composite score of 20 or higher

  • Have an SAT score of 950 or higher


Admission by Review

Students who do not meet one or more of the requirements above may still be considered for admission. See the Admission by Review section under Forms, Policies, and Conditions for more information.


English Proficiency

If your native language is not English, you’ll need to demonstrate English language proficiency. See the English Proficiency Requirements section under Forms, Policies, and Conditions or refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for details.
