Online Application Procedures

The graduate application for international applicants can be completed here. All support material, with the exception of transcripts, must be sent by e-mail to gradschool@unomaha.edu.

Note: Unofficial transcripts can be emailed for the purpose of an admission decision. Official transcripts will be required if admitted.

Step 1: Take Entrance exams and Check Requirements

  1. Take the GRE exam. For the GRE you must score at least a 144 verbal and 148 quantitative.
  2. Take the TOEFL or IELTS exam (see required scores here).
  3. Have the equivalent of a four-year undergraduate degree.
  4. Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.

Step 2: Apply for Admission

  1. Application Deadlines:
    • Fall: July 1
    • Spring: December 1
    • Summer: April 1
  2. Gather all the necessary documents:
    • Transcripts
    • Up to 3 letters of recommendation (optional)
    • Writing sample
    • Resume
  3. Send your entrance exam scores through ETS site.
  4. Complete the application form.
  5. Pay the $45 application fee.
  6. Send any documents not uploaded in your application to gradschool@unomaha.edu.
  7. Look for an e-mail from TrueYou with your NUID number and MavLINK password after applying.
  8. Keep checking the status of your application in MavLINK.
  9. If you are admitted, send official documents.
  10. Send questions about your application to IS&T advisors at unoistgrad@unomaha.edu.

Step 3: Apply for Scholarship

  1. After admission, log into MavLINK and complete the scholarship application form, found under the ‘Financial Aid’ section on the left.
  2. Look for private scholarships.
  3. E-mail questions to UNO’s Financial Support & Scholarships at unofinaid@unomaha.edu.

Step 4: Apply for Visa

  1. Get your educational, professional (if needed) and financial documents ready.
  2. Complete the SEVIS form with the details mentioned in your I-20 sent from UNO.
  3. Schedule your visa interview.
  4. Prepare for, and attend, your interview.
  5. E-mail questions to UNO Graduate Admissions at gradschool@unomaha.edu.

Step 5: Prepare and Travel to US

  1. Get any required immunizations.
  2. Know all your required immigration documents.
  3. Look for an apartment in Omaha.
  4. If living on campus, contact UNO Housing at unohousing@unomaha.edu
  5. Book your travel to Omaha
    • Check things like baggage allowance.
  6. E-mail questions about the program and getting started to gradschool@unomaha.edu.
