Students in the CMHC program must complete a three-credit-hour elective course at any point in their program of study. Electives may be selected from Counseling Department offerings or from approved 8000-level or higher courses in the programs listed below.

Any COUN-prefix course at the 8000 level or higher is eligible as an elective option.
Students may also complete COUN 8686 or COUN 8696 as their elective course. To obtain your PLADC, you will need to complete the following courses and 300 hours of clinical experience in internship:
- COUN 8686 - Medical and Psychosocial Aspects of Addiction
- COUN 8696 - Assessment & Case Management in Substance Use
Students also have the option to select three credit hours at the 8000-level or higher from the following programs:
