Program Overview
The UNO Addiction Counseling Professional Program is designed for mental health practitioners licensed in Nebraska or students completing a mental health license eligible graduate program. This program allows for the completion of the necessary additional clinical coursework to qualify for licensure as a Provisional Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the State of Nebraska. The program offers flexibility with 9 credit hours offered fully online to meet the individual needs of students across the state.
Program of Study
To successfully complete the program, students must take the following courses:
- COUN/SOWK 4510/8516 Clinical Treatment Issues of Substance Use Disorders (3 credits)
- COUN/SOWK 4680/8686 Medical and Psychosocial Aspects of Substance Use Disorders (3 credits)
- COUN/SOWK 4690/8696 Assessment and Case Management of Substance Use Disorders (3 credits)
Licensure Requirements
To be eligible for provisional licensure as an alcohol and drug counselor students must meet the following criteria:
- Graduate degree meeting requirements for licensure as a PLMHP in Nebraska
- Completion of the above listed three courses in the required LADC licensure areas
- Completion of a 300 hour practicum with an onsite LADC supervisor
Provisional licensure is determined by the State of Nebraska, not by the department, and meeting the above requirements does not guarantee licensure. If you are a current University of Nebraska Student, but are not a UNO student, you may apply for Intercampus enrollment: https://www.unomaha.edu/undergraduate-admissions/apply/other/intercampus.php
If you are not a University of Nebraska student, to be considered for the UNO Addiction Counseling Professional Program, you must
- Apply as an unclassified student at UNO:
- Visit UNO Admissions
- Select "Graduate Student"
- Create an account
- Select "Unclassified" for the program
- Provide your SSN to create an NUID number (important for former UNO students to avoid duplicate NUIDs)
- Pay the application fee
