UNO School Psychology Program faculty and students ground themselves in being research driven, data-based practitioners.
School psychology research teams give students first-hand experience in educational research. Additionally, students are highly encouraged to represent UNO by presenting their projects and research and local and national conferences.
According to Laurent & Runia (2016), the UNO School Psychology Program was ranked 10th in research production in comparison to all other EdS school psychology programs in the nation (137 total programs).

Building Better Behaviors (B3)
What is the Building Better Behaviors (B3) Grant?
“Building Better Behaviors: A Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Framework for Support of Students with Disabilities who have High-Intensity Needs” is a grant project funded by the Office of Special Education Programs, US Department of Education. The grant provides scholarships for graduate students in School Psychology and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha who are interested in providing support to school teams serving students with high intensity needs.
Participating graduate students receive specialized training to effectively implement evidence-based assessment and interventions in school settings. The goal is to prevent and address behavioral challenges for school-age children across the tiers within an MTSS framework. Scholars will become competent in the following areas:
- Supporting Tier 1 implementation of behavioral supports for all students.
- Supporting Problem-Solving Teams in matching appropriate Tier 2 interventions to students who need more than Tier 1.
- Promoting high expectations and improve outcomes for children with disabilities who have high intensity needs
- Providing intensive, evidence-based, and individualized interventions in person and through distance learning technologies in school settings
- Collaborating with partners using a multidisciplinary team approach to address developmental, learning, and academic needs of children with disabilities who have high-intensity needs, and support their successful transitions
- Exercising leadership to improve professional practice and services and education for children with disabilities who have high intensity needs

How can our school partner with B3 faculty and scholars?
Schools can partner with faculty and scholars in several ways based on school needs. The goal is for the school to benefit from additional supports and UNO scholars to benefit by growing their skills. The image below shows activities scholars might do, beginning with foundation activities. Each scholar will be able to spend about 12-13 hours per week in schools.
