Preparing students for the workforce and fostering meaningful engagement are central to the mission of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). By integrating artificial intelligence into career services and student success initiatives, UNO is enhancing opportunities for personalized guidance and impactful interactions. Below, we highlight three projects leveraging AI to support career readiness and engagement.

Custom GPT for Career Advising

Project Lead: Levi Thiele

UNO Career Services is utilizing custom GPT models to provide personalized career advice and streamline team training. AI assists with managing student inquiries, creating scalable resources, and automating routine tasks, allowing staff to focus on deeper, one-on-one engagements. This initiative empowers students with tailored guidance and equips staff with tools for efficient support.

Destination Omaha: A Spatial Immersive Experience

Project Lead: Destynie Sewell

This innovative project combines humanities research with AI to create an immersive exploration of Omaha’s cultural heritage. By engaging students, tech professionals, and community partners, the initiative offers job training, interdisciplinary education, and interactive experiences that connect students with Omaha’s diverse history. AI-driven storytelling and extended reality modules bring the city’s past to life while fostering workforce development.

Advancing Student Success with AI

Project Lead: December Lange Treacy

The Student Success & Recruitment Team is implementing a generative AI training program to improve operational efficiency and resource creation. By learning to use AI tools for managing email communications and developing inclusive resources, team members can provide timely, personalized support. This initiative enhances engagement and fosters a culture of innovation in student services.

Empowering Futures with AI

From career advising to cultural exploration, these projects demonstrate how AI can enrich student engagement and prepare them for professional success. By using these innovative tools, UNO is ensuring that students have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
