An ongoing dialogue about work, workforce, and the workplace co-hosted by Dr. Joanne Li (Chancellor, UNO) & Veta Jeffery (President and CEO, Greater Omaha Chamber).

Future of Work Symposium - A critical dialogue about work, workforce, and the workplace. The symposium will take place on November 30th, 2022 from 3-5 P.M.

In fall 2022, UNO began a series of ongoing conversations discussing critical topics influencing how, why and where we work. The “Future of Work Symposium Series” brings together leaders from the public, private, education and nonprofit sectors to shed light on big challenges and share thought-provoking insights on the following:

  • Workforce development imperatives and strategies
  • Demographic shifts in the economy
  • The intersection of work and transportation
  • Artificial intelligence and automation in the workplace

The first conversation was held on November 30, 2022 at Mammel Hall’s Business Activity Center from 3pm to 5pm with a reception that followed. It was co-hosted by Dr. Joanne Li (Chancellor, UNO) & Veta Jeffery (President and CEO, Greater Omaha Chamber) and were joined by four distinguished panelists:

Anne Hindery
Executive Director
Nonprofit Association of the Midlands
Dr. Cheryl Logan
Superintendent
Omaha Public Schools
James Blackledge
Chairman and CEO
Mutual of Omaha
Anthony Goins
Director
Nebraska Department of Economic Development

If you have any questions about the event or future sessions of this symposium series, please contact Dr. Jaci Lindburg, Associate Vice Chancellor for Innovative and Learning-Centric Initiatives, at jlindburg@unomaha.edu.

Dr. Joanne Li poses for a portrait at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at the Thompson Alumni Center. Li was named as the priority candidate to serve as the next chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

"We exist today in perfect storm of automation, emerging technologies, and economic conditions where individuals who are not actively expanding their skills risk being on the outside looking in at career advancement opportunities now and in the future. That future is closer than we think."

Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, Chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha How do you prepare for careers that don’t exist yet?
