Dr. Wei-Jie Liao is an Assistant Professor of Public Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York. Originally from Taichung, Taiwan, he received his Ph.D. in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. His scholarly expertise lies in public budgeting and finance, with additional specialization in public policy.
Dr. Liao’s research examines how public organizations manage fiscal resources and how citizens engage in budgetary processes. His work focuses on citizen participation in public budgeting, fiscal health, capital budgeting, debt management, and public policy. His dissertation investigated the use of budget simulations as a mechanism to enhance citizen participation in the United States.
His teaching interests span a broad range of topics, including introduction to public administration, public budgeting and finance, public policy, program planning and evaluation, and applied statistics. Through both his research and teaching, Dr. Liao is committed to advancing understanding of fiscal governance and promoting informed public engagement in governmental decision-making.
