Overview:
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted a number of challenges facing Americans, including hunger and food insecurity.
The question yet to be determined is if the pandemic has led to long-lasting attitudinal and perceptual changes in the way that people think about hunger and food insecurity.
This conference brings together national and local leaders to discuss:
- The effects of the pandemic on public perceptions relating to hunger, food banks, food insecurity, etc.
- The degree to which these perceptions changed – has the stigma associated with food insecurity, at all, diminished
- How can we think about coordinating messaging across the public, nonprofit and private sectors to:
- Bring awareness of food insecurity needs;
- Encourage those in need to seek assistance;
- Ensure greater cooperation across the sectors to help meet the needs of those who are food insecure.
The event is hosted by UNO’s School of Public Administration and Service-Learning Academy with the support of leaders at the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands and Food Bank for the Heartland.
