Bio
Erik is a second-year doctoral student who is devoted to serving his country and community. He lives by his motto: “Continue to Serve”. He believes that anyone can lead because anyone can serve.Born from Salvadoran parents, Erik is a 2nd generation Latino-American who affectionately calls Omaha “home”. Erik earned his Bachelor’s of Art in Political Science and International Studies in 2013 and Masters of Public Administration in 2016, both at University of Nebraska at Omaha. A 14-year Veteran, Erik’s military service includes deployment to Afghanistan as a Flight Medic in 2016-17 and Search and Rescue efforts in Texas post-Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
Erik’s service includes public office as Councilmember for the Learning Community Council, representing South Omaha, Medic with the Nebraska Army National Guard, Immediate Past-President of the Metro Young Latino Professionals Association, Past-Chair of the Nebraska Unity PAC, and Vice Chair on the Board of Directors for OneWorld Community Health Centers. Erik’s honors include MBJ’s 40 Under 40 (2022), Ten Outstanding Young Omahans (2018) and Ten Outstanding Young Americans (2019).
Erik’s full-time role is advancing the causes of empathy and understanding as Vice President of Operations and Development for TriFaith Initiative, the intentional co-location of a synagogue, church, mosque, and interfaith center on one common ground.
