Twenty University of Nebraska at Omaha students visted northern India from May 5th through the 15th, 2018. The immersion experience was coordinated by the UNO College of Information Science and Technology (IS&T) with their partner in India, Bennet University (BU).

A key portion of the experience exposed the UNO students to the growing Indian information technology sector. UNO students attended workshops on variety of topics including startup and entrepreneurship in India, chats with executives from Tech Mahindra, a tour a business process outsourcing operation, visited the Times of India Group’s headquarters, visited Radio Mirchi (an internet radio service), and connected with undergraduate students from BU. Students learned first-hand about Indian society, culture, history, business practices, education, and government through visits around Delhi to various sites of historical importance including the Presidential Palace (Rashtrapati Bhavan) and conversations with executives from the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce. Students also had the opportunity to tour of the two other cities in the golden triangle: Agra and Jaipur. Students stayed in the dorms located at Bennet University in the state of Uttar Pradesh, a suburb of Delhi, India.

A majority of the costs for local travel, ground transportation, educational workshops, hotels and meals were underwritten by a grant from a grant awarded to IS&T. The study abroad group was led by Dr. Deepak Khazanchi, associate dean of academic affairs for IS&T.

The UNO students maintained a daily blog of their travels in India. Follow their experience at: unoeducationabroad.tumblr.com/tagged/anubhav.
