Accelerated Special Education Program

The Accelerated Special Education Program (AC-SEP) at UNO is a teacher certification pathway for individuals with a baccalaureate degree or higher who wish to earn an Initial Teaching Certificate issued by the Nebraska Department of Education to teach special education.

This program is designed to be completed in two years. Students who successfully complete the qualifications of the Accelerated Special Education Program will be eligible for Nebraska certification in special education.

**All elective courses must be completed to apply for teacher certification**

Do you have an undergraduate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have now discovered you want to teach special education?

The UNO SECD offers a Masters in Science in Education (M.S. in Ed.) program for adults who have earned a bachelor's degree in another field and now want to obtain teaching credentials in special education.

The program of study combines course work and field experiences to prepare candidates for initial teaching licensure so they can teach special education in K-6 or 7-12 schools in Nebraska.


Application Requirements

  • Be admitted to the UNO Graduate College
  • Hold a bachelor's degree (a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0)
  • Have passing scores on the Praxis I Core Skills Exam
  • Be available for intensive full-time enrollment and practicum experiences

Application Deadline: April 1
Program Start: Summer cohorts begin in June
Total Credits: 45 credit hours
