General Information

Biography

Dr. Apryl L. Poch is an Assistant Professor of Special Education in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She earned her Ph.D. in special education with a focus in learning disabilities from the University of Missouri (MU). Dr. Poch previously worked as a Senior Research Associate at the MU Center for Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support and an Assistant Professor of Special Education at Duquesne University. Dr. Poch has published widely and has presented numerous times at the local, state, national, and international levels. She is the recipient of the Keuka College Alumni Association's 2022 Professional Achievement Award, the Duquesne University School of Education Early Career Award for Excellence in Scholarship (2018) and Service (2020), as well as the Marjorie Montague Award for Outstanding Doctoral Level Research (2017) from the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities. Originally from Western New York, Dr. Poch formerly worked as a high school special education and English teacher for the Springville Griffith Institute Central School District.

Theoretically modeling the components of adolescent writing, exploring adolescents’ and special educators’ knowledge and beliefs about writing, and school districts' actions in preventing school dropout of students with high incidence disabilities
