Biography
Praveen K. Rudra is an assistant professor in the counseling department and teaches graduate courses on multicultural counseling, ethics, and appraisal techniques, emphasizing the importance of cultural awareness and ethical practice in professional counseling. In addition to his teaching role, he is a licensed independent mental health practitioner (LIMHP) in Nebraska, and researcher specializing in mental health among diverse populations. With a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, he is committed to enhancing culturally responsive counseling practices and promoting cultural competence in counselor training. His research explores critical areas such as acculturation, help-seeking behaviors, and self-stigma within minority groups, aiming to reduce mental health disparities and foster inclusive support services.is actively involved in community and professional service. He also serves on the peer review board for the Journal of International Students, contributes as a subject matter expert for the National Counselor Examination with National Board of Certified Counselors. His professional affiliations include the American Counseling Association (ACA), and National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) underscoring his dedication to advocacy and advancement within the counseling field.
Teaching Interests
Praveen K. Rudra’s teaching interests lie in advancing multicultural competence, ethical practice, and assessment skills among counseling students. He is passionate about preparing future counselors to serve diverse populations with cultural sensitivity and a strong ethical foundation. Courses he teaches include Multicultural Foundations of Counseling, Ethics, and Appraisal Techniques, which integrate theory and practical applications to build students’ competence and confidence in addressing the unique needs of clients from various backgrounds.
Research Interests
His research centers on understanding and addressing mental health challenges faced by minority groups, with a focus on culturally responsive approaches that consider the unique experiences of marginalized communities. His work aims to identify effective support strategies and reduce barriers to mental health services for these populations.
