Our mission is to educate artists, designers, scholars and teachers by fostering visual literacy, creative expression, and critical thinking through practice and research.


Our Strengths

Our Art & Art History programs are designed to ignite your creativity and prepare you for a successful career in the arts. Our acclaimed faculty, who are both experienced artists and dedicated educators, offer personalized instruction and innovative curricula.

You can choose from six different concentrations in Studio Art and two in Art History. You'll also benefit from state-of-the-art facilities and advanced technology to support your scholarly/creative projects.

Our strong community connections provide you with unique opportunities to engage with local art institutions such as the Joslyn Museum of Art and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. These community ties, along with numerous internship opportunities, enhance your practical experience and professional readiness.

In Art & Art History, we emphasize discipline-specific training and the development of essential life skills like discipline, collaboration, and problem-solving. Our graduates have gone on to successful careers as artists, designers, educators, and museum professionals.

Our Programs

Part of the School of the Arts, Art & Art History offers 3 degrees, multiple concentrations, and minors:

Dedicated teachers, our faculty are nationally and internationally recognized artists, scholars, and design practitioners who strive to personalize instruction to every student.


Our Facilities

Weber Fine Arts Building (WFAB) houses many specialized art classrooms and the equipment and tools to unleash your creative spirit in the medium of your choice.

A separate building houses sculpture and ceramics studios.

WFAB is also home to the UNO Art Gallery, your classroom beyond the classroom. Participate in a range of student exhibitions or learn about contemporary artistic practices through faculty, thematic, medium-specific, and professional artist exhibitions.
