The College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS) was created amidst the social and racial turbulence occurring in Omaha in the early 1970s to ensure the university was responsive to the critical social needs and concerns of our community and state.

The College was given the mission not only to  provide  educational and training programs of the highest caliber to prepare students for careers and leadership in the public service, but also to reach out to the community to help solve public problems. This mission is reflected in our motto: “Engaging Citizens, Creating Solutions, Serving the Community.”

From those days almost 40 years ago, the College has become a national leader among similar colleges. Its faculty ranks among the finest in their disciplines (see Faculty & Staff Awards). Its degree programs are nationally ranked.  And faculty, staff, and students are integral to the community and the state because of their applied research, service learning and outreach activities.  We take seriously our duty to address social needs and craft solutions to local and national problems.

Welcome to the College of Public Affairs and Community Service. The College offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate academic degree and certificate programs in social work, public administration, nonprofit management, criminology and criminal justice, gerontology, aviation, urban studies, and general studies. Our programs are nationally recognized for their academic excellence, research impact, and the caliber of their alumni.

The web site provides an overview of the College’s mission, strategic plan, programs, and services. I invite you to explore what CPACS has to offer whether you are a current or potential student, an alumnus, a donor, or someone interested in our research or outreach programs.
