DIGITAL ACCESSIBILITY SHORT COURSE & WORKSHOPS

Improving the Accessibility of Your Canvas Course

This 6-week online course helps faculty improve the accessibility of their Canvas courses by focusing on key content areas, tools, and testing strategies. You’ll explore why accessibility matters, what areas to prioritize, and how to evaluate your course for compliance and usability. The course is asynchronous but not self-paced, with rolling start dates and an expected commitment of 3–5 hours per week. Designed to be practical and applicable, the course includes discussions and assignments to support learning and implementation. Faculty who complete all requirements are eligible for a $300 stipend. Introduction to Digital Accessibility | Thursday, September 4 | 11:00-12:00 PM

Start your accessibility journey with this foundational workshop. Learn what digital accessibility means and discover how implementing accessibility in your courses benefits all students. This session will cover key accessibility principles and include an overview of Panorama to help evaluate and improve accessibility in your courses.

Microsoft Word Accessibility | Thursday, September 11 | 11:00-12:00 PM

Join us for a hands-on workshop focused on building practical skills to create accessible Microsoft Word documents. Learn key accessibility guidelines and how to identify and fix common issues using YuJa Panorama and Word’s built-in accessibility checker. With guided practice and real-time examples, you'll leave with the knowledge and confidence to make your own documents more accessible.

Canvas Accessibility | Thursday, September 25, 2025, 11:00-12:00 PM

This hands-on workshop equips participants with the skills to create accessible pages in Canvas. Guided by the facilitator, attendees will explore and apply accessibility features and strategies on their own computers.

PowerPoint Accessibility | Thursday, October 9 | 11:00-12:00 PM

Join us for an engaging, hands-on workshop where you'll uncover the steps to making your PowerPoint presentations fully accessible! In this session, you'll explore accessibility guidelines and learn how to quickly spot and fix issues using YuJa Panorama and the built-in accessibility tool in PowerPoint. As you follow along with the facilitator, you'll learn exactly how to improve your slides and practice implementing your newly gained skills in your own documents. By the end, you'll walk away with the confidence and skills to create accessible presentations!

Audio & Video Accessibility | Thursday, October 23 | 11:00-12:00 PM

This hands-on session teaches participants how to make audio and video content accessible. The facilitator will demonstrate key strategies and features, which participants will practice on their own computers.

PDF Accessibility | Thursday, November 6 | 11:00-12:00 PM

Getting the most out of ChatGPT EDU (formerly Enterprise) | Monday, September 8 | 2:00-3:00pm

Are you using ChatGPT to its’ fullest potential? In this workshop, we will discuss when to choose each model, how to leverage ChatGPT EDU features, and the benefits of using ChatGPT EDU @ UNO. We’ll do live demos, and leave time for Q&A.
