Space and Defense, one of the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s open access journals hosted on DigitalCommons@UNO, has been accepted for inclusion in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). This recognition marks a significant milestone in the journal’s continued growth and expanding scholarly impact.
The DOAJ is a leading international directory that indexes high-quality, peer-reviewed, open access journals. Inclusion in DOAJ signals that a journal meets rigorous standards for editorial quality, transparency, and best practices in open access publishing. Being indexed enhances a journal’s visibility, credibility, and discoverability, ensuring that scholars, students, policymakers, and general readers worldwide can access its content without subscription barriers.
Originally launched in 2003 through the United States Air Force Academy, Space and Defense began with a focused military readership. Over time, the journal has grown substantially in reputation, scope, and scholarly reach. Through its partnership between the Air Force Academy and UNO, the journal now occupies a distinctive position in the academic publishing landscape as a forum for interdisciplinary research.
Space and Defense serves as a meeting ground for scholarship addressing defense and military studies; space policy and security; deterrence theory across nuclear, space, and cyber domains; international and armed conflict; post-conflict and peacekeeping operations; conflict resolution and negotiation; arms control and disarmament; nonproliferation; defense policy; international institutions and alliances; terrorism and counterterrorism; and internal security.
