Restorative Justice Practices Certificate Program Cohort 2025

Purpose

The Restorative Justice Practices Certificate Program was developed in alignment with the UNO and School of Criminology and Criminal Justice strategic vision for ongoing workforce development. While restorative justice practices are not new, they are emerging across disciplines in the United States. This course aims to provide fundamental elements and application of restorative practices in a variety of spaces.

Who Should Enroll

Restorative Justice Practices Certificate Program is for anyone working in the human services or education field. This highly interactive experience will provide foundational knowledge and skills to those seeking understanding and growth in restorative justice practices. Through an introduction of theory and hands on skill practice, participants will deepen their understanding of why restorative practices is are essential in all spaces. The heart of this work is building and strengthening relationships and knowing how to repair those relationships when harm occurs. Participants will leave this course with skills to begin using restorative justice approaches with clients, in their workplaces, and personal lives.

Cohorts will be limited to approximately 25 people.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the evolution of restorative practices across the world.
  2. Apply the concepts of theSocial Discipline Window in their personal and professional spaces.
  3. Utilize restorative statements and questions.
  4. Understand the role of social emotions in restorative justice interventions.
  5. Identify the restorative practice continuum.
  6. Facilitate proactive and responsive circles.
  7. Create an individual implementation plan.
  8. Understand the impact on victims participating in the process

Program Curriculum And Format

This program is highly interactive and led by numerous local and national experts. Participants are provided with required reading material and are required to complete short discussion assignments on Canvas. Participants must attend all sessions and complete all assignments to earn the final certificate.
