Biography

Dr. Huang is an Associate Professor in the Aviation Institute at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) and a Distinguished Professor in Aviation at the University of Nebraska. He also serves as the editor of Collegiate Aviation Review - International and on the leadership team for the FAA Center of Excellence for Technical Training and Human Performance. He holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, earned Master’s Degrees in Air Transportation Planning and Management and Aerospace and Aviation Management, and a Ph.D. focusing on Aviation Technology from Purdue University. He is an FAA-certified Advanced Ground Instructor, Private Pilot, Remote Pilot, and an American Association of Airport Executives Certified Member. Dr. Huang has been actively conducting dynamic interdisciplinary research, intersecting aviation technology, data science, engineering, social science, and STEM-based education. His focus is on developing strategies to enhance aviation safety and crafting data-driven solutions for optimizing aircraft and airport operations. Dr. Huang’s research, which includes data-driven modeling and decision-making, integrating computer vision with drone technology, dynamic integrated system development, aerial inspection, regulatory compliance, and aviation education, has been widely recognized. His work has been featured in esteemed journals, conferences, and book chapters. Dr. Huang is deeply involved in aviation education. At UNO, he teaches courses encompassing uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), private pilot theory, aviation safety, general aviation, and transportation analysis and oversees the undergraduate capstone project design.
