Biography

Mr. Scott E. Vlasek is the Director of the Aviation Institute at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  Scott holds a Master of Public Administration degree with an Aviation Administration concentration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  Additionally, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Studies along with minor concentrations in Space Studies and Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Scott’s areas of teaching include: Introduction to Aviation and Aerospace, History of Aviation, Business and Corporate Aviation Management, General Aviation Services, and Aviation Marketing.  In addition to his teaching duties, Scott is the Coordinator of the Aviation Institute’s Internship program and Career Pathways Program. 

In 2011 Mr. Vlasek was voted by the schools in Region VI of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) to represent them as a Regional Representative to the NIFA Council.  He was re-elected in 2014 to serve an additional three year term beginning in 2015.  Currently he also serves as chair of the Planning Committee for NIFA. Scott is also a member of Alpha Eta Rho and at the 2014 National Conference for Alpha Eta Rho International Aviation Fraternity (AHP), he was nominated and voted in by the Board of Directors of AHP to serve as the National Treasure and member of the Board of Directors.

Scott is active in a number of aviation organizations including the Nebraska Business Aviation Association, National Business Aviation Association, the University Aviation Association, and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.   Mr. Vlasek is also involved with the local chapter of Alpha Eta Rho has the faculty advisor and has served as the faculty advisor for the UNO Flight Team the Flying Mavs, winner of the prestigious Loening Trophy in 2012 as the most outstanding collegiate aviation program in the country..  In 2014, Scott was nominated by members of Flying Mavs and selected as the National Coach of the Year.

For the past 18 years, Scott has been involved in the Aviation Exploring Post sponsored by the University of Nebraska at Omaha Aviation Institute.  Each year the post visits local and regional aviation companies to introduce and expose high school age kids to potential careers in aviation. 

In 2013, he was nominated and selected for the William H. Spurgeon III Award.  This is the highest recognition for an individual or organization contributing significant leadership to an Exploring program.

Scott is married and has one daughter.  Outside of the office he enjoys golfing, attending as many different UNO Athletic events as his family can, and spending time with family and friends around their neighborhood.
