Biography

Mark Sheldon is an Instructor and Aviation Weather Specialist for the Aviation Institute at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He instructs a range of courses, including Introduction to Aviation and Aerospace, Introduction to Airport Management, and Aviation Weather. Mark has a bachelor's and master’s degree in Geoscience, both of which were earned at Mississippi State University. 

Before joining the Aviation Institute in 2014, Mark was a Weather Forecaster and Officer in the United States Air Force. His last two years in the service were marked by his role as an Assistant Professor at the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Core at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. After 27 years of dedicated service, Mark retired from active duty with the rank of Major in September of 2014. 

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mark embraces an active and enriching personal life. He takes pleasure in outdoor pursuits such as hunting, fishing, and camping, often sharing these experiences with his wife, Jennifer. Furthermore, Mark is a committed volunteer at the American Legion in Ashland, NE, where he contributes his time and energy.

Mark and Jennifer are proud parents of two sons, Joshua and Kyle, the latter of whom serves as a United States Marine, carrying on the family's tradition of service to the nation. Furthermore, Mark has an older son, Mark II, who also served in the United States Air Force, a testament to the family's commitment to our country.
