About the Writer's Workshop

Writer’s Workshop graduates enjoy an extremely high acceptance rate to top graduate programs. Others go directly into careers as diverse as advertising, public relations, banking, technical writing, computer programming, graphics, or radio. Our alumni enjoy continued access to departmental and professional opportunities.

We sponsor the Writer's Workshop Reading Series at UNO, bringing professional, award-winning writers to campus for the benefit of students and the public.

CFAM offers more than $300,000 in scholarships each year.

Degrees

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in creative writing with an emphasis in fiction, poetry or creative nonfiction

  • Minor in Creative Writing

  • Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Writing

Undergraduate
Our undergraduate BFA program is built on the apprenticeship model. All teaching faculty, both full- and part-time, are published writers who strive to personalize instruction and bring out emerging artists’ creative potential.

Graduate
The MFA in Writing is a two-year primarily online learning program of focused instruction for apprentice writers who have a strong commitment to a literary career but are unable to leave home, family, or job to pursue their ambitions. Over the course of study, students earn 60 credit hours in fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction.
