Service

Department, College, and University

Created UNOmahaNews Digital, Faculty Mentor, As a Capstone instructor, my goal is to provide an experience that closely resembles a practical newsroom so students will understand how a newsroom works, the creative angle of writing stories for news and promotions and why a digital presence is so important. I worked with the director to secure funding for a website and security. After this, I created the UNOmahaNews digital newsroom where students wanting experience on this platform can have that opportunity. It also serves as an outlet for our traditional news stories to air on Twitter, Facebook and other social media. Again, the goal is to follow commercial news outlets as closely as possible. That means everything must be available on demand. This was an undertaking that required many, many hours particularly on weekends and at nights. The website is running and it is increasing the visibility of the professionalism of our students., 09/01/2018 - 09/30/2018

Professional

Nebraska Broadcasters Association, Organization Member, NBA President Jim Timm and I have created a high-trust working relationship as a result of our collaboration of radio and Nebraska state-wide broadcasters. I serve as a judge for the high school portion of the Pinnacle Awards as well as P1 Learning coordinator for the School of Communication. , 01/01/2019 - 01/31/2019

P1 Learning, Committee Member, The goal of the P1 Learning team is to enhance students' knowledge of broadcast sales. - present

Media Contributions

Website Development, The Omaha News, Digital distribution is a key element to any television station. In order to update the presence of The Omaha News in our community, I developed a website for the course, specifically for digital content and distribution of student investigations, news packages, and creative content. It takes a myriad of hours, including research, design and development to create a working website. It's even more complicated to add social media accounts. The infrastructure was set in motion in the Fall of 2018. The Omaha News streams live every Wednesday at 4 p.m. on YouTube, Facebook and The Knowledge Network (TKN) during the academic year. The half-hour newscast also airs state-wide on NET reaching all of Nebraska’s 1.9 million residents. Our mission is to fully immerse University of Nebraska at Omaha journalists into the business of reporting and investigating live, local stories that impact our region. Located in the Community of Public Affairs and Community Service building, our newsroom is home to state-of-the-art facilities and award-winning journalism. Follow us on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and our website UNOmahaNews.com, 10/01/2018
