Roger Foltz

Roger E. Foltz, NCMT, served as Chair of the School of Music for eight years and Assistant to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts for two years. He previously held positions at Temple University and the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Foltz received his Bachelor of Music from Wichita State University and his Master of Music and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He is active as a composer, theorist and ethnomusicologist delivering over two dozen papers at numerous professional meetings including Society for Music Theory, The College Music Society, Music Teachers National Association, National Association of Schools of Music and the National Association for Computer Based Music Instruction. He has published over a dozen articles in such journals as Symposium, Indiana Theory Review, The American Music Teacher, and the Journal for Music Theory Pedagogy. In addition, he has co-authored two textbooks and has contributed articles to Symphony Orchestras of the United States (Craven) and the International Dictionary of Opera (St. James Press). For eleven years he served as the program annotator for the Omaha Symphony. His compositions have been performed throughout the United States and in Europe and include various solo, chamber, choral, and orchestral works.
