Dr. Gallagher has a variety of research interests and ongoing projects, including the studies of:
- Development of topological thinking in undergraduates- Undergraduates' informal argumentation and proof strategies
- Undergraduates' uses of visual representations and gestures
- Pre-service teachers' mathematics content knowledge and mathematical knowledge for teaching
- Connections between advanced mathematics and K-12 mathematics
- Recognition of connections between different branches of mathematics
- Mathematics tutoring centers
