Curriculum

  1. UNO
  2. Academic Affairs
  3. University Honors Program
  4. Academics

Students from every major and every college at UNO share the same academic expectations in completing the University Honors Program.

Academics is the core of the University Honors Program, and we offer courses designed to engage all Honors students actively in their academic choices and possibilities. All Honors students share a common Honors curriculum that enables all students from every major in every college to complete the University Honors Program requirements their way.

The following requirements apply to students entering the Program:

  • One Honors-only course (such as ENGL 2160 or CMST 1110 - we have courses to suit your general education needs and these have section numbers [the last 3 digits] in the 90s, so "ENGL 2160-099")
  • Two Honors Seminar courses (HONR 3000 or 3020 or 3030 or 3040)
  • A thesis/practicum/senior project course

Including the above, the student must earn 24 hours of Honors credit and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher in order to graduate with Honors.

Beyond courses, Honors credit can be earned through the following options:

Thesis

Internships

Contracts

Students can also earn Honors credit when they enroll in and complete graduate courses successfully as undergraduates. To do so, complete this form by the end of the third week of the semester.

Students studying away for a semester and blogging can also earn Honors credit!

There are so many possible pathways through Honors, but one suggested example is given below--feel free to find your own way though!
