The UNO Counseling Department allows Clinical Mental Health Counseling students who are enrolled or plan to enroll in COUN 8250 (Internship) or COUN 8260 (Advanced Internship) to sit for the National Counselor Exam (NCE) and the CMHC Comprehensive Examination prior to graduation.

Students wishing to use this option must email the department chair.

The department chair will verify the student’s plan of study and provide verification to the NBCC board of the student’s intention. Officials from the NBCC will contact students directly via the student’s email regarding testing information.

Because the CMHC Comprehensive Exam and the NCE are based on the same 8 core areas designated by CACREP, students are encouraged to take the NCE soon after successful completion of the department's CMHC Comprehensive Exam.
