The First Year Leadership Commission (FYLC) is made up of 20 first-year leaders who meet regularly to learn more about the UNO campus and UNO Student Government.
The Director of Leadership Development oversees FYLC, including the:
- Peer Mentorship Program: Pairing an FYLC Commissioner with a member of the Student Senate to strengthen interconnectedness between members.
- End of the Year Programming Event: Planning and executing an event hosted by FYLC.
- Service Learning Project: Partnering with the Office of Engagement to increase commissioners’ community engagement.
In addition to the activities listed above, commissioners will elect two first-year ambassadors who are non-voting members of the Student Senate and act as the voice of new students.
The 2026-27 commission application is open until September 4, 2026, and the commission will meet Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M. starting in mid-September.
