The Student Government Association (SGA) is comprised of three branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Each branch has a unique role in leadership, policymaking, and oversight. Working together, these branches ensure a balanced and unified Student Government.
The Executive Branch
The Executive Branch is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations and coordination between various student government branches, commissions, and student agencies. The Executive Committee empowers members to create meaningful change.
Key officer roles include student body president/regent, vice president, chief of staff, seven directors, and manager/coordinator position(s) that help ensure the effective execution of SGA initiatives.
The Judicial Branch
The Judicial Branch is comprised of three bodies: the Student Court, the Election Commission, and the Parking Appeals Commission.
The Student Court interprets Student Government matters and hears appeals, while the Election Commission oversees elections, and the Parking Appeals Commission reviews parking ticket appeals. Each body upholds fairness and accountability.
The Legislative Branch
The Legislative Branch represents all colleges at UNO and is comprised of 28 elected student senators and two first-year ambassadors. This branch is responsible for proposing, debating, and voting on policies and initiatives that directly impact the student body.
Senators also make key appointments, draft resolutions, and engage in community outreach, ensuring that student concerns are addressed and acted upon through meaningful legislation.
