Folders

  1. UNO
  2. Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications
  3. Web Resources
  4. Folders

Folders are assets that are used to contain and organize other site assets (pages, images, documents).

When inside a site, the asset tree on the left is where your folders and their contained assets are displayed.

Clicking on a folder in the asset tree will expand it to reveal the subfolders and assets contained inside.

There are two ways to display the contents of the folder:

  • Click the arrow to the right of the folder name to display content in the content pane to the right
  • Right-click the folder and select View from the context menu

When viewing a folder's content in the content pane, you can sort the contained assets by name, folder order, asset type, or last modified date. If a folder contains image assets, you can click the Gallery View button to display thumbnail images.

Creating a Folder

Folder Order

Folder order refers to the order of assets in a folder, which is different than their alphabetical or chronological order.

For example, an index block for a dynamic navigation menu might sort assets by their folder order, allowing you to change their placement in the menu by changing their order.

By default, newly-created assets are placed at the top of the list in a folder's order, but assets can be manually reordered.

Creating a Folder

Decide where the new folder will live: will it be nested under the main site, or inside another folder? Remember to try to keep your asset tree as simple as possible - don't create a folder inside a folder inside a folder - this buries your content and makes it harder to find online.

Once you choose where the new folder will live, make sure you click the arrow to the right to ensure that's where the new folder will be placed:

To create a folder:

  • Click Add Content

  • Click Default >> Folder

  • Enter folder name (lowercase, separated by hyphens)
  • Add the Display Name
  • Add the Title Name
    • Note that the folder name will be included in the published URL. For example, a folder named "about" will appear as https://www.example.com/about/page-name.php when published.
    • The Display Name will be shown in the breadcrumbs on the live site if you choose to include it in the navigation
