Online communication through social media and social networking platforms are powerful communication and community-building tools.
UNO Social Media Guidelines and Policy
These communication media provide viable means of developing communities and allow for free and open discussions and exchanges of information. However, the freedom with which information can be exchanged through these sites comes with personal and institutional responsibilities. That's why we created the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) Social Media Policy and Best Practices Guide.
The UNO Social Media Policy is intended to be a helpful tool for all UNO colleges, departments, offices, and affiliated social media accounts. Future resources will include a social media quick start guide/tool kit and social media lunch and learns.
These guidelines should be considered in addition to the behavioral standards, laws, professional expectations, and student conduct policies that govern interactions on campus—including, but not limited to:
Policy for Responsible Use of University Computers and Information Systems
Memorandum on Copyright Law and Compliance
UNO Social Media Accounts
UNO social media accounts are maintained by the university’s Social Media Specialist at socialmedia@unomaha.edu.
Consultations are available to those interested in starting a social media account for their academic or administrative unit.
