When can I enroll?

Your total earned credits will determine when you can register for classes. View UNO enrollment dates for the most current semester

What classes should I take?

  • You should meet with your Academic Advisor at least once a semester.
  • Class schedule appointments take about 30 minutes.
  • Together, you will review the courses that are required as well as options available to you to explore.
  • You don’t have to wait - as soon as classes are listed you can start looking around and adding them to your “shopping cart” in MavLINK.
Before meeting with your advisor, here are some resources for exploring classes on your own:

What is a hold and how do I check my account?

Common holds include:

  • Academic Advising Holds
  • Financial Holds (tuition, fees, parking tickets, library fines, tuition fees etc.)
  • Student Orientation
  • Missing Admissions Information
  • Immunization Requirements

Check MavLINK for holds on your account.

  • Select the Holds option on the left side menu.
  • Click specific holds to find out more information.

I have a hold! What do I do?

Advising Holds are there to help. They’re a way to connect students with resources and support here at UNO.

To see if a hold has been placed:

  • Log in to MavLINK and click "Holds" on the left side menu.
  • Click the hold for more details. The office that assigned the hold will be the only office authorized to release that hold.

To remove an advising hold follow the directions for the hold on MavLINK and make an appointment with your advisor on MavCONNECT.


How do I enroll in classes?

Enrolling in a Class

Log in to MavLINK

  • Under “My Classes” select the term you want to register for. For example: Fall 2023
  • Select the Enrollment tab on the left side menu
  • Click Class Search
  • Complete the Enrollment Agreement
  • Select a Subject (example: History)
  • Select a Catalog Number (example: 1000 World Civilizations I)
  • Other search options can also be selected at this time, though they are not required.
  • Check the box “Only Open Classes” to view only open classes
  • Click Select
  • A list of courses with section number, be sure to look at:
    • Open/Closed
    • Meeting Times
    • Course Attributes
  • To choose a course click the shopping cart icon to add that section to your cart.
    • Reminder: A class in the shopping cart is not officially registered! Like with online shopping, you must “checkout” first.
  • Select “Back to Cart”
  • To complete registration for classes, click “Check Out”
  • Click the box for the course you want to register for
  • Click “Enroll Selected”
  • An Enrollment Message will appear
    • Success – your course has been successfully added to your schedule
    • Failure or a red X will mean it has not been successful
  • Go to “My Classes” on the left hand menu bar to verify that you have been enrolled
  • Enrolled Classes will show what classes you are enrolled for.

Dropping a Class

Log in to MavLINK

  • Go to Enrollment
  • Select My Classes
  • Find the class you would like to drop
  • Click the down arrow that is to the right of the class title
  • Select “Drop class”
  • Click Continue on the first notification
  • A second notification will appear to “Confirm Drop Class”
  • Click Continue
  • Verify the class has been dropped by going back to “My Classes” under the Enrollment section of the main menu

Don’t Forget Academic Deadlines

Depending on your circumstances, choosing when to drop a class can impact scholarships, financial aid, student housing and more!

What if I can’t add a class?

Sometimes you may have trouble adding a class:

  • The course might be reserved for specific learning groups, such as the Thompson Learning Community.
  • The course may no longer be open.
  • Missing pre-requisites.
    • Check here to see the new English placement information.
  • You may need to take or retake a placement test.
    • Math: If your ACT/SAT/ALEKS placement test scores are more than two years old, you will need to retake the ALEKS Placement Test

How do I join the waitlist for a class?

Watch this video or follow the instructions below:

Joining a Class Waitlist

  • Search for a class using the MavLINK Class Search tool.
  • Leave the “Only Open Classes” box unchecked
  • Find the class, it should have the yellow “Closed – Waitlist Available” status next to the Section Number.
  • Click the shopping cart icon
  • With the Class Options notification, click the “Wait List” drop down menu.
  • Select Yes
  • Click Continue
  • Reminder: a class in the shopping cart is not officially waitlisted! Like with real shopping, you must “Check Out” first.
  • Click “Back to Cart”
  • Verify the correct class is in the shopping cart
  • Click Checkout
  • Check mark “Closed – Waitlist Available” on the class you want to add to the waitlist.
  • Make sure that below where it says “Wait List,” that Yes is selected from the drop down menu.
  • Click Enroll Selected
  • If successful you will then see a message with the course waitlisted, along with which number you are on the waitlist.
  • Confirm that you are successfully added to the waitlist by going to the main menu, select Enrollment, and Waitlisted Classes.

ATTENTION! Make sure there are no scheduling conflicts or missing prerequisites before adding yourself to the waitlist this can cause problems with getting added to the class.


How do I use a Permission Number?

Reach out to your Academic Advisor about how to get a permission number as needed. Once you have the permission number follow along with the tutorial below to register for the class.

Using a Permission Number

  • Find the class you want to add using the MavLINK Class Search tool
  • Pay close attention to the Section Number, it must be the correct class section for the permission number to work.
  • Click the shopping cart
  • Click Back to Cart
  • Select Checkout
  • Enter the Permission Number in the bar titled “Permission Nbr.”
  • Check the “Open” box next to the course you are adding
  • Click “Enroll Selected” to enroll in the class
  • A “Success” message means that you have enrolled in the class
  • Click the X at the corner of the pop-up
  • Verify by selecting “My Classes” under Enrollment on the main menu

The class you added should appear under your Enrolled Classes


What is the Academic Calendar?

The Academic Calendar has dates for:

  • Registration, like the first and last days to do so
  • Last day to add or drop classes
  • Financial Aid deadlines
  • Final Exam Schedule
  • Commencement
