Biography
Dr. Jason Coleman leads the Division of Innovative and Learning Centric Initiatives at UNO. He is an experienced leader and academic administrator with a strong commitment to cultivating a culture of creativity, collaboration, and accountability. He brings strategic insight and operational expertise to this role, with vast experience supporting faculty, staff, leadership, and partners in achieving mission-driven excellence.
Coleman’s leadership style integrates strategic vision with operational precision. He leads through collaboration, building strong cross-functional partnerships that advance organizational development and strengthen institutional capacity. Grounded in systems thinking and evidence-based practice, he focuses on aligning innovation with measurable outcomes, ensuring that learning-centered initiatives are thoughtfully implemented, scalable, and positioned for long-term impact.
Prior to this role, Coleman served in multiple leadership roles at UNO, including Associate Dean for the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences and Director of the School of Health and Kinesiology. As a faculty member, Coleman built a substantial publication and presentation record and achieved success in grant-funded research and public service initiatives. In his over 20-year career in higher education, Coleman has earned a national reputation for his leadership in public health research and academic program accreditation. He is a recognized leader who has embraced leadership roles locally, regionally, and nationally. He is currently the President of the Council on Education for Public Health. Coleman has vast international experience, and he proudly served as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia.
