Seeking research participants and caregivers!

The purpose of our research study is to learn about the effects of the environment on sleep and memory. We are focusing this research on the needs to minority communities that have been less represented in research, so we are concentrating our studies on Hispanic and South Asian adults. We have two studies currently ongoing, one for each community mentioned. If you or someone you know is interested, please view each study below and fill out the contact form for further information.

TITLE: Caregivers of People with Memory Loss: Relationships between the Built Environment and Sleep Quality in South Asian Refugees

This research study is approved by the Institutional Review Board, IRB# 629-22-EP

The purpose of our research study is to learn about the effects of the environment on sleep. We want to learn about sleep in people who provide care or support to people with memory loss. We are curious about the needs of minority communities that have been less represented in research.

Participants will fill out a brief survey. Then you will complete a follow-up survey with your contact information. The survey and follow-up will take about 1 hour to complete. Your contact information will be used to pay you and follow up with you (if applicable).

Participants should be:

  • aged 19+
  • able to understand English (written or spoken)
  • residing in Nebraska
  • providing unpaid care or support to an adult (aged 50+)*.

Participants and the adults they care for should self-identify as South Asian, and part of one of the following communities: Nepali, Bhutanese, Burmese, Karen, and/or Myanmarese.

*Care or support can be provided often or only sometimes, but should have been given at least once in the past 60 days. Participants might be a friend, family member, neighbor, or unpaid caregiver to the person they help/support. You might support someone by:

  • paying bills or taking care of money/finances.
  • providing companionship, reading, or transportation (getting from place to place).
  • doing chores, like cooking meals, buying groceries, or cleaning the house.
  • aiding with daily tasks, like eating, getting dressed, or bathing.
  • helping with special needs like taking medication, going to the doctor, or making appointments.
  • supporting spiritual wellness, prayer, or healing.

The list above does not include all types of care or support.

Additional eligibility requirements for this research study may apply. You will speak to a researcher to help find out if you qualify. If you think you may be eligible but aren’t sure, please contact us.
