Bachelor of Science in Gerontology

The Bachelor of Science in Gerontology degree includes one of three concentrations in Gerontology: Administration; Healthy Aging, and Pre-Health OR an approved minor from a different department. 

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for the Bachelor’s Degree:

  • SLO 1: Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental interdisciplinary evidence-based knowledge and theories for competent gerontological practice.
  • SLO 2: Demonstrate critical thinking when analyzing diverse and complex aging issues and outcomes from an interdisciplinary perspective.
  • SLO 3: Exhibit abilities to effectively use basic communication (written, oral, interpersonal) skills and information technology.
  • SLO 4: When interacting with others, demonstrate social and cultural awareness, sensitivity, respect, and support of multiple perspectives, and exhibit personal and social responsibility, and ethical and professional behavior in all settings.

Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies with Applied Aging Studies Concentration

The Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies (BMS) degree offers a distinct, multidisciplinary learning experience that allows students to pursue areas of study, even those that may be unrelated. This approach cultivates problem-solving skills that draw on diverse perspectives and knowledge and fosters an appreciation and thirst for lifelong learning. Add the Applied Aging Studies Concentration to gain knowledge in the gerontology field.

Undergraduate Certificate in Gerontology

The Certificate in Gerontology is a valuable companion to other degrees or may be completed alone without a full degree. Both undergraduate and graduate certificate programs may be completed online or on-campus.

Undergraduate Minor in Gerontology

A minor in Gerontology can be completed at UNO or UNL.

The undergraduate minor in Gerontology consists of 18 credit hours. Nine hours of core courses are required and nine hours to be selected by the student with advice and support from the department's academic advisor.
