How do I apply to the Teacher Education graduate programs?

Applications are submitted through UNO Graduate Studies. Use this guide to help you navigate the application process.

What resources do I need to support my application?

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Applicants working toward the master's degree must have a valid teaching certificate or application to a concentration that leads to certification (e.g., Accelerated Certification for Teachers concentration)
  • Applicants need to submit undergraduate and graduate transcripts from institutions outside of the NU system
  • Meet the minimum English Language Proficiency
  • Visit the UNO Graduate Catalog for more information


How soon do I need to submit my application?

Application Deadlines for Teacher Education Graduate Programs are:

Summer 2026: May 10

Fall 2026: August 1

Spring 2027: December 10


How many credits will I need to complete my degree?

UNO offers three Teacher Education Master’s Degrees: Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Literacy Education:

Master's = 36 credit hours

Endorsements = 15 – 30 credit hours (vary by endorsement)

Certificates = 12 credit hours

How are the courses offered?

Classes often meet once a month during the weekend throughout the school year to allow more flexibility for students. Classes meet for 2 hours and 45 minutes. Summer classes meet during Session I (June) and Session II (July). Each session encompasses 4 class meeting times.


How much does the program cost?

The 2026-2027 Graduate Tuition Rates are available on the Accounting Services Website.


Is financial aid available?

  • To qualify for financial aid, a graduate candidate must be enrolled in at least 5 credits per semester as a degree seeking student.
