  5. 2022 Student Awards

Congratulations to the 2022 Student Award Winners!

We are excited to present the following current and former students with these well-deserved awards.

Judson Hixson the Barbara Miller Senior Scholarship!

Judson tells us why he loves economics ...

"To me, economics is more of an approach than it is a subject of study. It is a way of looking at data to determine market inefficiencies. Having the economic way of thinking mastered through the study of economics can give someone an advantage when it comes to business strategy and the like."

Steven Buer Wins the Barbara Miller Junior Scholarship!

Steven tells us why he loves economics ...

"Economics struck a great interest with me starting in High School and then propelled me into a strong topic of interest in college. What I especially love is that economics gives me a new perspective and the ability to think more outside the box than I ever thought I could. It is extremely useful in daily life and something that I love learning about."

Luis Rodriguez Wins the James Horejs Scholarship!

Luis tells us why he loves economics ...

"I am passionate about the study of economics because it allows me to have a comprehensive understanding of personal financial decisions, while simultaneously allowing me to provide better advice to my peers and professional partners."

Kellie Garner Wins the Horace and Kate King Wu Scholarship!

Kellie tells us why she loves economics ...

"I love Economics because, like music, it is a universal language – and it’s beautiful! With economic models and concepts we are able to improvise, like choosing key signatures and carefully moving from note to note, weaving together sound, rhythm, and life. Economists layer strategies that help inspire innovation, solve all kinds of business and social problems, optimize our limited resources, and explain complex issues very simply. Even though most people probably think it is all about money, I believe Economics is the key to unlocking a better, more peaceful world."

Grant Cole Wins the Bun Song Lee Scholarship and Outstanding Undergraduate A&S!

Grant tells us why he loves economics ...

"I love economics because it offers us a unique toolset to analyze the world and its challenges in a systematic way. Whether solving optimization problems, testing hypotheses based on data, or studying game theory, the field of economics has helped me prepare to address the challenges of past, present, and future generations."

Tyler Billings Wins the Outstanding Graduate Award!

Tyler tells us why he loves economics ...

"I love economics because it is the study of scarcity, trade-offs, and how societies try to maximize the value of their resources. It sets out to understand how people make decisions and what they find most important. It gives us the skills to blend quantitative and qualitative analysis of real-world issues and make meaningful decisions. Overall, I love economics because it gives us the tools to make the most of what we have."
