Data Literacy Micro Credential Program

Learn to use data to make decisions, make sense of the world, and prepare for your future. Each of the individual courses are $150. You can buy a bundle of all three and a capstone project for $450.

Data literacy equips people with the knowledge and resources needed to make informed decisions and to solve problems. The Data Literacy Micro-Credential is focused on practical knowledge that will help you gain data literacy skills. These skills increase your value to any organization. They also may be critical to future employment prospects as even roles in totally separate areas of many organizations require a basic understanding of how to interact with and make decisions based on data.

Each individual course is $150; you can buy all three and a capstone project for $450. Each course offers an in-person lab where you will gain hands-on experience from local data experts. Each course consists of about three hours of pre-work (e.g. videos, readings) and a three-hour lab. Completing any one of these courses results in a Digital Badge endorsed by UNO. Completing the entire program results in all three badges and a Certificate in Data Literacy.

The sign-up process is easy. You simply enter a few details about yourself, pay with your credit card, and you are in. These courses are open to everyone in the greater Omaha community whether you are an executive or someone who has never gone to college.

Individual Classes

Introductory Statistics with Excel and Power Query - Next Lab Session May 9, 1PM-4PM (UNO Mammel Hall 115)

In this class, we introduce a powerful tool to extract and transform data: Power Query. Power Query allows you to extract data from numerous data sources, transform that data, and load the appropriate data into your application (e.g. Excel). Using this data, we will show you how to implement various statistical tests in Excel and what they mean for your business.

Introductory SQL and Power Query - Next Lab Session May 16, 1PM-4PM (UNO Mammel Hall 115)

Businesses often house their data in databases. In this class we show you how to transform this data using a language common to databases: Structured Query Language (SQL). This language can be used in combination with Power Query to refine your dataset for analysis. You will learn how to use SQL and Power Query to build data models in business intelligence tools like Power BI.

Introductory Business Intelligence with Power BI - Next Lab Session May 23, 1PM-4PM (UNO Mammel Hall 115)

Businesses need insights from their data. In the first two classes, you learned how to prepare your data for analysis and perform some statistical analysis.
