Join us for the 38th Annual Chemistry Field Day!
Hosted by the UNO and Creighton Chemistry Departments
Each year, 30–40 teams (4–6 students each) represent more than two dozen area high schools. This year, the 38th Annual Chemistry Field Day runs from 8 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. on Saturday, April 17th, 2027.
Winning teams head home with medals, plaques, and, of course, serious bragging rights. 😊
Are your chemistry students ready to prove they’re the best?
Bring them to Chemistry Field Day where they can put their skills to the test against top students from across the region.
At Field Day, students don their goggles and dive into six fast-paced, hands-on events. Open to all high school chemistry students — with both Primary and Advanced divisions — Field Day offers the perfect blend of academic rigor, teamwork, and fun competition for first-year and AP chemistry students alike. Past events include:
- Titration Frustration -Students race the clock to determine the exact concentration of an unknown acid using real lab technique, sharp calculations, and a perfectly timed phenolphthalein endpoint.
- Quick Qual - With flame tests, precipitates, and a little chemical detective work, teams identify mystery ions faster than you can say “bright red thiocyanate!”
- Serial Dilution to a Better Solution - Precision matters as students design a multi-step serial dilution and then see how close they came when their solution is instrumentally tested for accuracy.
- Equation Balancing Act - It’s a fast-paced relay race of stoichiometric skill where students balance as many chemical equations as possible before the buzzer.
- Gameboard Gallimaufry - Think chemistry meets Jeopardy! as teams strategize their way across a game board packed with increasingly challenging questions from every corner of high school chemistry.
- Send the Science! - Separated into two rooms, teammates must communicate chemical observations clearly and efficiently to match identical mystery solutions — because when you’ve got the data… SEND IT!
If you haven’t covered every topic yet, don’t worry — not all schools have. The events reward reasoning, teamwork, and problem-solving just as much as specific content knowledge, and both Primary and Advanced divisions help level the field. The schedule and complete details are all included in the attached booklet.
What's Included
Field day includes lunch, serious fun, and most importantly your students experience learning at a university, work in real chemistry labs, and leave energized, proud, and planning for next time!
A fantastic opportunity for your students and/or science club members to compete, collaborate, and represent your school.
